A senior police inspector who arrested three protesters during the Fortune Global Forum in May said yesterday he had not received an order to pick on the protesters' van.
Senior Inspector Hung Hin-kau, of the traffic division of Hong Kong Island, told Eastern Court he had not received any order to 'pay particular attention to any black coffins made by protesters'.
He admitted that he expected protests during the Fortune Global Forum, which took place at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, when he was planning traffic contingencies for the movement of VIPs including President Jiang Zemin and former US president Bill Clinton.
Ng Kwok-hung, 44, Sunny Leung Chun-wai, 31, and Wan Shu-nam, 41, deny obstructing Inspector Hung in the execution of his duty. Ng and Leung also deny assaulting police.
Ng allegedly elbowed Constable Terence Lim Yiok in the teeth, while Leung allegedly pushed Sergeant So Kung-lai to the ground.
Inspector Hung said that on May 8 police constable Chu Chi-ming had requested help near the junction of Fleming and Lockhart roads as 'a vehicle with defects and [which appeared] unroadworthy was needed to be towed to the police pound for further examination'.
