Woman takes salon to tribunal over laser burns claim
A woman who went to a beauty salon for laser hair removal treatments to her back and legs ended up with painful burns, the Small Claims Tribunal heard yesterday.
Ng Ah-kam is seeking a refund of $13,500 from Modern Beauty Salon Ltd, in Causeway Bay, plus what she claims was $345 in resultant medical fees.
Ms Ng told the tribunal she had signed up for a $30,000 laser hair removal course with the salon on May 27 this year, entitling her to treatment over a two-year period.
The tribunal heard Ms Ng had paid $13,500 up-front and signed a credit card slip to pay the remaining $16,500, which the company agreed to deduct from her bank account at a later date. The salon had not yet withdrawn the money.
Ms Ng said staff removed hair from her back and lower legs using a laser on May 27, comprising three treatments.
She said she felt pain immediately afterwards and noticed her lower legs had turned red. When she questioned staff, she was told it was normal and would disappear. But when she arrived home, the pain grew worse and she was reduced to tears, the tribunal heard.
