Each week this year will see two SAR technology companies fail with a possible liability fall out of HK$3.4 billion for the year.
Corporate restructuring firm Baker Tilly, which carries out liquidations, used Government statistics to show failures had increased by about 29 per cent from last year.
The Official Receiver's Office listed 910 winding-up orders last year, compared with the 685 in the first seven months this year.
If corporate insolvencies kept up that pace, about 1,174 companies would have wound up by year-end, Baker Tilly managing director Rupert Purser said.
Last year, about 75 corporate failures fell into the Government's two industry categories of electrical and electronic products, and telecommunications - with estimated liabilities of HK$2.57 billion.
Based on this year's rising rate of bankruptcies, Mr Purser said at least two such firms would declare insolvency each week, increasing the liabilities.
