Girl the only Asian to win a prize in world contest in Britain
A Hong Kong student has won a prize for her piano performance, becoming the only Asian musician to shine at an international competition in Britain.
Crystal Lam Kai-ying, 15, was the second runner-up in the instrumental soloist category at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales.
Despite having received dozens of prizes for her piano skills before, Kai-ying still felt very nervous when performing on the stage in front of a large international audience.
However, having butterflies running riot in her stomach did very little to stop her from impressing the panel of judges, who said she was the youngest instrumentalist the competition has had in over 24 years.
Remaining modest, Kai-ying said: 'I was really lucky to get the prize but most importantly, I have exposed myself to international and professional musicians.'
The only other musician representing Hong Kong at the competition was pipa player Wendy Tsang Yin-man.
