Tycoon Teddy Wang Teh-huei might not have signed a 1990 will allegedly left by him just before he was abducted, a government chemist testified yesterday. Senior chemist Dr Patrick Cheng Yau-sang said he could not come to a firm conclusion because of limitations in the control samples available, including an insufficient number of signatures and the absence of contemporaneous samples. He previously told the Court of First Instance the four signatures purportedly by Teddy Wang on the will, dated March 12, 1990, were not written naturally. Dr Cheng was testifying in the probate tug-of-war between Teddy Wang's wife, Chinachem Group chairwoman Nina Wang Kung Yu-sum, and his father, Wang Din-shin, 89. Ms Wang claims her husband left her with the 1990 will in sealed envelopes, which were opened previously by Mr Justice David Yam Yee-kwan behind closed doors. But Mr Wang Snr argues his son, who disappeared after being kidnapped in 1990, made a will in 1968 appointing him the sole beneficiary of his estate, believed to be worth several billion dollars. Mr Justice Yam has to determine whether the 1990 will is genuine. Two handwriting experts - US-based Gus Lesnevich and Dr Cheng - have both said Ms Wang could not be ruled out as the author of a page of the 1990 will. Mr Lesnevich has also said the purported signatures of Teddy Wang on that will are forgeries. Under questioning from barrister Edward Chan King-sang, SC, for Mr Wang Snr, Dr Cheng said yesterday that four English words, 'One life one love', written on the last page of the 1990 will had left impressions on another page of the will. He added impressions of a further five English words, 'One life one love Nina', were found to appear faintly across the body of the other two pages. The hearing was adjourned until tomorrow after Dr Cheng was given more samples of Teddy Wang's signatures and that of the late Tse Ping-yim, a witness to the 1990 will. Mr Justice Yam rejected an application by barrister Martin Lee Chu-ming, SC, to put forward 11 more sample signatures of Tse, but he did allow three extra Tse signatures to be included.
