A mature club for mature clubbers is the philosophy of the team behind Central's newest nightspot, Liquid (above) on Elgin Street. Quality music, a friendly atmosphere and stylish surroundings have been melded to create a place where clubbers can party or relax, depending on their mood.

'We began the project a year ago with the goal of creating a world-class club venue offering the best decor, sound system, DJs, staff and atmosphere in Hong Kong,' says marketing and entertainment director Darryl Mag. 'We wanted a place where more mature clubbers could enjoy a club experience outside of the younger rave scene.'

The club is split into two floors, each offering different music and ambience. Upstairs is a comfortable lounge bar. Downstairs has a dancefloor, separate bar and low-slung seating areas.

So far the club appears to be achieving its goal, with both floors filling up most nights of the week. On weekdays music is played at decibel levels which allow for conversation.

'The feedback we've received has been brilliant,' says Mag. 'It's a club where people can sit and relax if they want to, or get up and dance. We seem to be attracting exactly the sort of customers we were looking for.'

Local DJs Eric Chumet and Teng Boon have been signed as residents with others such as Kulu and US deep house spinner Chris Sorenson playing slots. The music policy is eclectic with everything from acid jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and garage upstairs and Latin beats, sexy house and tech house downstairs.
