I hope the operator of the Hong Kong-Macau ferry service can explain its policy regarding passengers with golf bags.

I had a recent encounter which I found to be most unfair and annoying. Some friends and I had arranged a golf trip to Macau.

When we tried to board the ferry, we were told we could not bring our golf bags on board.

They had to be checked in and we had to pay an additional $30 per bag (each way). Assuming this applied to everyone and was for safety reasons, we complied.

As we were queueing to board, we were surprised to see some passengers on the gangway carrying their golf bags.

I noticed our four bags were placed in a corner together with the bags these other passengers had carried on board. Back in Hong Kong, I called the customer-service department and was told economy-class passengers were not allowed to carry golf bags on board. However, passengers from super class (and above) could bring their bags on board free of charge.
