MAINLAND police have detained and fined a Taiwanese man accused of fabricating a ''bomb scare'' in order to catch a flight from Fuzhou in Fujian province to Hongkong. The man reportedly made an anonymous phone call to the Fuzhou Airport last Tuesday and said there was a bomb on board flight MU537 from Fuzhou to Hongkong. The China News Service reported that police immediately evacuated passengers and off-loaded all cargo to carry out an extensive search. The report claimed that the man was originally booked to leave Fuzhou for Hongkong with his wife, but found that his wife, who had already arrived at the airport, had taken his passport and ticket. Realising he would miss the flight, he reportedly called the airport and claimed there was a bomb on board the flight in an attempt to delay it.
