Idyllic weekends at local beaches have once again been disrupted by the scourge of the seas.

Bathers and sand-castle builders alike are fearful of entering Hong Kong waters for fear of attack.

Parents watch in a permanent state of readiness as youngsters paddle in the South China Sea and surfers cling to their boards as they watch for the tell-tale signs.

Nowhere is safe as Hong Kong trembles under the Shadow of the Blimp.

Shark sightings have  increased  during the past couple of weeks, particularly at weekends, as the weather improves and more people head for the coast.

The good weather also means that ANZ Bank's promotional blimp has been able to circumnavigate Hong Kong Island - especially at  weekends.

Beach-bums have been racing to dial 999 as 41-metre blimp-shaped shadows appear in the waters off Hong Kong.

The shadows, blimp-shaped and about four times as long as your average man-eater, have been the object of more than one sighting.

We assume that if you do spot a large dark shadow in the water you are unlikely to take your eyes off it until it disappears.

Hence the reason why no-one looks skyward.

Whoever heard of a flying shark?

But then again, whoever heard of an underwater airship?

Bowl movements: Soup-delivery start-up Ah Chung has closed  - temporarily.

In an all-too-familiar announcement, the fledgling company - inspired by Financial Secretary Antony Leung Kam-chung  - has closed for restructuring.

Ah Chung, set up a few weeks ago after Mr Leung commented on the lack of good soup in Central, said the overwhelming demand for office deliveries had made it necessary for a strategy re-think.

A quick glance at the menu illustrates why demand has been so terrific.

Tempting offerings include: Soup with dried figs, sea coconuts, apples and pork - prevents constipation, nourishes spleen and lungs; soup with prunella vulgaris, water chestnuts, dried figs and pig's diaphragm -  good for people who are busy with their work and social lives and have insufficient rest.

We can see a niche in the market and are busy in the kitchen whipping up a fried egg sandwich - good for the day after the night before particularly if faced with the prospect of another bowl of offal.

Out of site: Public Enemy No 1 Osama bin Laden has been keeping his head down recently.

Intelligence sources suggest he is holed  up somewhere in Afghanistan.

Not very helpful when you consider the country covers about 650,000 square kilometres.

However, we thought we'd use the power of the Internet and use search engine Ask Jeeves, to find out 'Where is Osama bin Laden?'

Unfortunately, it doesn't know either.

Wage-ing war: Pentamedia Graphics chairman and chief executive V. Chandrasekharan tells the Press in Madras, India, how it really is after employees take to the streets in protest:

'If we delay salaries for a few days, these fellows won't starve or die.

'We have been paying them for some time.

'If I have to choose between banks to whom I have to pay at the end of the month and salaries to employees, I would choose the former and allow salary payment to be delayed for six or seven days.

'There is no hard and fast rule that I have to pay salaries on such a date.'
