TWO out of every three Lai Chi Kok residents are opposed to performances by scantily-dressed European dancers at a theatre in the district, a survey has shown.

Furthermore, more than 80 per cent said the show would be a bad influence on students and teenagers in the district while 61 per cent said it would cause a disturbance for nearby residents.

The Moulin Rouge-style show will make its local debut at the Palladium Opera House, next to the Lai Chi Kok Amusement Park, on July 15.

The poll was conducted by United Democrats' New Territories South Branch among 100 people at a private residential area, Lai Wan Garden and outside the Lai Chi Kok Amusement Park.

The chairman of the centre, Philip Ng Chung-tak was dissatisfied that the Government had issued a permit to run the show in the district without consulting the district board.

The performance was classified by the Government as category III to restrict it to adult audiences.

Mr Ng said the Palladium Opera House was not a suitable venue for such performances as it was surrounded by residential area.
