Updated at 3.34pm: Cathay Pacific said on Thursday it would temporarily suspend flights to Pakistan for a month. The suspension, which will start on Saturday, is ''due to the softening of the global economy and its impact on the airline industry,'' Cathay said in a statement. A Cathay spokeswoman told SCMP.com ''the last Cathay flight to Karachi before the suspension will be on September 28''. This will be Flight CX2700. She said the airline hopes to resume flights to Pakistan on October 28. Cathay currently operates three return flights a week to Karachi. The aviation industry has been badly hit since the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States, with passengers cancelling international flights and airlines laying off staff.
