Wave goodbye to that big (and growing) pile of English supplementary exercise books sitting on your desk and say hello to a new online Internet site that promises to provide an alternative way to hone your oral English skills. Super-English.com is the latest addition to the growing number of educational Web sites targeting students who are preparing for their Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE). Taking full advantage of its multimedia features, the site offers, for a fee, lectures and exercises on the four language skills at various proficiency levels. The chairman and managing director of the programme, Alex Ying Ki-luen, says the site is a multimedia supplementary English training platform, pioneering a new way of learning foreign languages. 'One of the problems faced by local students is that they don't have the opportunity to speak and listen to English after school as there's no English-speaking environment in our community,' said Mr Ying, who founded the programme. Before subscribing to the online learning site, an evaluation test is available for students to assess their abilities. Six courses, ranging from foundation to examination strategy, are available. Each course lasts three months and has a special topic every day. Students can take the courses via the Internet during their free time. They can also check the answers to the exercises online instantly. The idea of interactive learning is similar to the Learning Zone of ypost.scmp.com launched by Young Post earlier this year. Students can test their comprehension ability with online exercises, such as theme matching and cloze passages, after reading their newspapers.
