Looking to the future . . . Bank of America is stepping up efforts to increase its presence in Asia, and China in particular. Chairman and chief executive Richard Rosenberg (above) said in Guangzhou the bank was looking at every opportunity in China. The Asian region, including China, is the most dynamic part of the world, according to Mr Rosenberg. However, he dismissed suggestion that the bank's programme of heading for China and Asia in general was aimed at replacing business which had been lost elsewhere. ''Bank of America has been the most profitable bank in the States for the past four years. We've earned over US$1 billion in each of the past four years,'' he said. The San Francisco-based bank now has two branch offices in China - Guangzhou and Shanghai - and a representative office in Beijing. The newly upgraded Guangzhou branch office, now in a 1,500 sq ft hotel room, is expected to move to the Bank of America Plaza upon the plaza's completion in 1996. Bank of America has the option to buy 12,000 sq ft of gross floor area in the plaza from the developer.
