IT'S A STICK-UP: Greenpeace activists wearing masks of officials including Chief Secretary Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, Financial Secretary Antony Leung Kam-chung and Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa stick protest labels on food containing genetically modified (GM) ingredients in a Wellcome supermarket in Causeway Bay yesterday.
The activists carried out the protest in the store against Pak Fook Soya Milk to mark World Food Day. Greenpeace assistant campaigner Nicole Tse Choi-fan said the group wanted to remind the public and the Government that GM food was being sold unlabelled.
She said about 3,000 voluntary GM food watchers would take part in labelling campaigns in coming days. 'The active participation of the public has shown that there is a serious demand for GM-free food,' said Ms Tse.
A spokesman for Nestle, which produces Pak Fook Soya Milk, insisted the GM ingredients in its products were safe.
