Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software company Scala Business Solutions has agreed with Johnson Controls to use its e-business management products in Johnson's Hong Kong office and five mainland centres.

Together with the SAR, the United States car-controls maker will use Scala's eBMS 5.1 in its Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin and Shenzhen operations for facility management and control.

Scala said the market potential in China was unlimited as mainland companies were relatively inexperienced with ERP.

The company has several high-profile customers in Hong Kong, including 3Com, Pioneer Electronics and Schott Jebsen.

'Our global customers are now expanding their businesses into China, but most state-owned enterprises there still do not operate with ERP systems,' said Kevin Hurley, Scala's Asia-Pacific senior vice-president.

'With the expanding consumer market and China's [World Trade Organisation] entry, we believe there is a huge growth potential for our business there.
