The RTHK television host who sparked controversy with his Taleban remark about the Government now has to have his scripts vetted before going on air, he revealed yesterday.
Speaking from the RTHK studio after pre-recording today's Headliner programme, Lam Chiu-wing said he now enjoyed less freedom following the row over his Superman's Special Report broadcast last Saturday.
After he linked the Government to the Taleban regime in Afghanistan, Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa described the programme as in 'bad taste'.
Mr Lam said yesterday: 'I have to write the script before I host the programme and let the senior producer have a look. Over the past few years it was very free.'
But Sze Wing-yuen, senior executive producer of the programme, said he had always required Mr Lam to supply scripts and it had not been prompted by the latest criticism. Acting assistant director of broadcasting, Cheung Man-sun, said RTHK had not been subjected to pressure.
Cyd Ho Sau-lan, of The Frontier, said she had been disappointed with Mr Tung's response. 'In fact, I hope Mr Tung will solemnly say there is press freedom in Hong Kong and that anyone can express their views.'
