Chek Lap Kok's Aviation Security Company (Avseco) has won an international award for excellence at a conference in the United States - despite two high-profile security blunders since the airport opened in 1998.
Avseco, which manages the airport's internal security, received the award for outstanding organisation at Aviation Security World 2001 - the second international conference of its kind focusing on aviation security.
The award was presented to Avseco's deputy general manager, Rupert Cheung, on Thursday by the conference's organising committee, which comprises representatives of the Airport Council International, International Air Transport Association and Aviation Security International magazine.
The conference in Atlanta, Georgia, was attended by 430 participants from 60 countries.
Avseco's operations manager, Trevor Collins, said it was 'amazed and delighted' to have landed the award.
'We run constant security tests on ourselves and sometimes we breach our own checks. Technology is changing so quickly and would-be criminals adapt so quickly. We are delighted to have landed the award.'
