The producer of RTHK's Headliner programme has rejected claims that it has a secret agenda to attack Tung Chee-hwa and the Government.
Senior executive producer Sze Wing-yuen said: '[Critics] have raised the issue to a higher plane of politics and say we have political motives. It's absolutely not true. I don't mind if people complain we are in bad taste. We should listen to public opinion. But politicising the issue is going too far.'
A Headliner segment, Superman's Special Report, broadcast on October 13 drew fierce criticism from the pro-Beijing media and some politicians for linking the Tung administration with the ruling Taleban regime in Afghanistan.
Mr Tung said it was in bad taste and Ta Kung Pao said the programme was intended to fuel anti-Tung sentiment.
Mr Sze, a journalist for 21 years and founding producer of the programme when it was launched in 1989, maintained politics was not a consideration.
'We only want a more lively and interesting approach to news so that people will develop an interest in current affairs. Of course, I have my own political views. But as a producer, I have to be impartial. That's what I always remind my colleagues: never allow your own political views in your programme,' he said.
