Treatment with Frederick Stander
What luck, in the course of a 'multi-dimensional cellular healing' treatment, I am in the throes of an OBE (outer-body experience) and am oblivious to it all. 'Your astral body was floating above your gross corporeal body,' says holistic therapist Frederick Stander. I'm riding high into the fourth dimension and practically sleeping through it.
Frederick, in his bid to identify blockages, energy or otherwise, asks me to lie down on a table with my head in a 'stereophonic cushion', a pillow with built-in speakers. New Age sounds are piped in and Frederick begins to apply silicon discs and crystals to various parts of my body, either on areas I've told him are painful or areas which are considered energy meridians or chakras.
'Now imagine a pink light, pink like a carnation, pink like a blushing baby's cheek, and inhale it,' says Frederick. 'Now imagine the light filling your shoulder [my area of pain].'
He proceeds to chant mantras and lightly touch various points on my body in an attempt to ignite my 'life force', also known as chi or prana, which is when I almost nod off. Treatments, at $600, normally last an hour, but my sampling lasts half an hour. Frederick can also incorporate intuitive counselling, which he says, by empowering you to get into the moment, can produce a quantum shift in one's life. The benefit of such esoteric therapy is probably largely dependent on a 'patient's' ability to believe. However, my shoulder pain is diminished and I feel revitalised - the result of Frederick working his magic, the placebo effect, or the fact I've had some shut-eye?
