At first glance, the latest phone from Ericsson - the T65 - looks a lot like the first product from a joint venture. It is unlike traditionally conservative Ericsson designs, but has little in common with Ericsson partner Sony. It looks more like a Nokia.

Measuring just 10.5 centimetres long, 4.9 cm wide and 2.1 cm deep, the T65 will probably appeal to gadget-loving Hong Kongers.

It is the first model from the company to dispense with an external aerial and the SIM card is unconventionally placed on the top of the phone for easy access. Hong Kong people should like this, as many switch SIM cards when they cross to the mainland for work or shopping trips.

To reduce weight, the phone has a built-in battery that weighs 94 grams. However, this means unscrewing the back to check or change the battery.

One of the T65's chief selling points is its one-button access to the Internet, giving quick connections to send e-mails, download information and ring signals as well as playing online games.

More importantly, the phone comes with GPRS (general packet radio service) for relatively high-speed Internet access.

Many people download pop tunes to install as the ring signals of their phones. The T65 allows selection of up to eight tunes to associate with different callers.
