Nice, France

I find the whole Provence region just charming. Nice, in particular, has so much to offer in arts, architecture and music. Going there during summer is definitely a plus. The Nice Jazz Festival [every July; www.nicejazzfest.com] is held in the gardens of Cimiez, which are illuminated at night. If you are an art fan, as I am, don't miss the Musee Matisee [www.musee-matisse-nice.org] where the famous Blue Rider works are housed. The Musee de Malacologie [seashells] is a nice touch for a seaside town. My favourite photo-snapping spots are the boulevards lined with Belle Epoque-influenced mansions on the hills of Mont Boron. But above all, it's just a wonderful place to laze around, mingle with the cheerful locals and sample a frothy cappuccino on the cafe terraces of Promenade des Anglais.

Paris, France

You can get anything you need to update your wardrobe in Parisian boutiques. I have a tall build and have a hard time finding fashionable clothing that fits in Hong Kong. The stores there offer more sizes and more complete collections, whether designer labels or just household brands. When I go to Le Printemps [www.printemps.com] I have to hold on to my purse tightly as I find it hard to control my buying sprees. Le Carrousel du Louvre [www.lecarrouseldulouvre.com] is another great shopping place, compact with a cluster of the best stores from around the world. You can get everyything under one roof, from clothing to CDs to replicas of museum artefacts.

Siena in Tuscany, Italy

I feel far more at ease whenever I leave Hong Kong. I once stayed at a private villa in Siena with no TV or mobile phone and I felt I could finally leave all the work behind. It overlooked an idyllic olive grove and the countryside is very tranquil. You get a complimentary bottle of freshly extracted olive oil by your bedside and the place serves hearty pizzas and pasta.
