Wong cashes in at awards
Pop diva Faye Wong (left) swept the board at the first Golden Sail Awards, winning the best song in the pop category, best alternative composition and best female vocal performance.
Organised by the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH) and voted by industry insiders, the awards aim to promote the professional recognition of songs.
Wong had said she would like her ballad Han Wu Jie to win because it is her own composition. On winning the alternative composition award for that track, Wong expressed surprise that it was categorised outside the mainstream section.
'Maybe Lin Xie's lyrics are too difficult to understand,' she said. 'In fact, I'm not too sure what it really means but this song is very special.'
Other winners on Friday night included Jacky Cheung Hok-yau and Eason Chan Yik-shun - sharing the best male vocal performance - and veteran lyricist Jim Lo, who joined the CASH Hall of Fame.
