Get rid of rats, roaches and illegal hawkers

SCMP Reporter

I am concerned about the dreadful state of Lower Ngau Tau Kok (II) Estate.

Throughout the estate you see cockroaches and rats. Illegal hawkers occupy open areas meant for pedestrians. Corridors which would be used by residents in the event of a fire have obstacles, placed there by food vendors who ignore government safety and hygiene regulations.

I am particularly concerned about an obstruction on the footbridge facing Kwun Tong, caused by about five illegal hawkers. They choose to operate during rush hours, making it difficult for pedestrians to pass.

Staff at the Housing Authority must be aware of these problems, yet they choose to stay cloistered in their offices, rather than deal with this unacceptable state of affairs. As residents, we have rights and should be entitled to enjoy better living conditions.

I urge officials to do something about the problems I have described.
