THE motto ''do your your best, God will do the rest'' spurred 19-year old Hui Ching-ping Ching-ping from YWCA Hioe Tjo Yoeng College to high-flying success in studies.

The cheerful girl is the first student in the 22 years of her school's history to gain five distinctions in the Advanced-Level Examination.

''I expected only 5 Bs and maybe one or two As. I dared not hope for too much for fear of disappointment,'' Ching-ping said.

Ching-ping had little inkling that her expected Bs in Physics, Pure Maths, Applied Maths and English would turn into the shining results of A(2)s crowned with an A(1) in Chemistry.

Ching-ping stayed up all night chatting with school friends on the eve of the exam results.

''We thought that would be the best way to unwind our nerves before the exciting day,'' she said.

Ching-ping has been a scholarship student all along, from Forms 1 to 5, but she is no over-industrious bookworm.
