A senior Beijing minister has been invited by the SAR Government to brief a group of top advisers to Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa today on China's economic strategies.
Zeng Peiyan, chairman of the State Development Planning Commission, has flown in from Beijing to attend the fourth meeting of the Council of International Advisers. It is the first time a senior mainland official has been invited to the meeting of the high-level council, formed in 1998.
At today's meeting the advisers, comprising prominent international business and corporate leaders, would discuss the global economic outlook for next year, a government spokesman said. Deputy Information Co-ordinator Ella Tam Law Nam-wah said Mr Zeng's briefing would be an important reference point for the council as China's importance to the global and Hong Kong economies was increasing.
Chief Secretary Donald Tsang Yam-kuen will give a presentation on promoting closer economic ties and co-operation between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta.
Financial Secretary Antony Leung Kam-chung will give a presentation on Hong Kong's latest economic performance.
