If you own a plethora of devices such as an MP3 player, a digital camera, an e-book and a personal digital assistant (PDA) as well as a mobile phone, it is likely that most of the devices have a slot for adding memory.
It also is highly likely the type of memory is different for each device. The option to add or expand memory to any mobile device is quickly becoming a standard.
Adding memory gives a quick boost to the usefulness of almost any portable device. A memory card can double the number of songs stored on an MP3 player, boost the photograph capacity of a digital camera and increase the amount of data stored on a PDA.
However, selecting the right memory device can be complicated and often costly. There are so many formats for portable memory, it is hard to decide which is right for which device. As far as possible, having one format for all devices is best.
Before shopping for a portable device, check what type of memory-expansion card the device supports, then check the price for the card.
There were more than eight formats available the last time I looked. I have narrowed it down to the four most commonly used. It is safe to ignore the rest.
