July 14: The body of 11-year-old Chan Chi-sin is found under a flyover near Kai Yip Estate, Kowloon Bay, three days after he is kidnapped. A $1.4 million ransom demand is received by his parents. Suspected kidnappers and SAR residents Luk Yan-hon and Chung Wai-yin are arrested by mainland police in Foshan, Guangdong. A trial is pending. June 29: The six-year-old son of a wealthy businessman is kidnapped outside a kindergarten in Tuen Mun. He is held for five days. He is released after his family pay $950,000. May 22: The 16-year-old son of billionaire toy tycoon Francis Choi escapes an ambush by a gang of kidnappers who sandwich the vehicle driving him to school between two goods vans outside his Sha Tin house. July, 2000: The nine-year-old son of actress-director Sylvia Chang Ai-chia is abducted. He is rescued by police 10 days later after being carried around in a suitcase. The kidnappers demand a ransom of $15 million but are negotiated down to $8 million. Three kidnappers, Leung Man-kwong, Yuen Lee-man, and Tsang Yiu-tung, are found guilty and are serving jail terms of between 10 and 12 years.
