Hong Kong Sprint hopeful King Of Danes is ticking over nicely in his preparation following an impressive barrier trial earlier this week when he led from start to finish under Felix Coetzee. The superbly bred son of Danehill is picking up in his work and condition all the time and he proved far too speedy for his rivals, even though he was never urged along by Coetzee. With his big target just over a month away, Cruz is starting to wind up the sprinter in readiness for his reappearance in the Sprint Trial Trophy on November 25. Ivan Allan's Housemaster is another who could run at the International meeting and the former Champions & Chater Cup winner confirmed the promise he had displayed in an earlier trial with fourth place behind King Of Danes. Providing Allan can keep him sound, he should give a good sight when he reappears. In the same heat, Francis Lui Kin-wai's Bacchus, who is a son of Danzero, was worth noting as he hit the line quite stylishly under Douglas Whyte. He is yet to race but clearly has a future considering his current handicap mark of 52. Lawrie Fownes' Sparky edged out King Of Danes for the quickest 1,000-metre grass trial of the morning when he clocked 59.3 seconds under Weichong Marwing. The speedy son of Gold Brose has a terrific record down the straight and it would be no surprise if Fownes keeps his next target for the straight course. Stablemate Baccura moved reasonably well in behind to finish in mid-division and, while he still looks a fair way off his peak, there looks to be some potential to work on. Lui's General Kingy finished second in the heat, though he was not quite as impressive as he was in a previous trial. Geoff Lane's Desert Strike, an unraced son of Volksraad, took the third heat in commanding style and is definitely worth keeping safe when he first appears. This was his third trial so far this season and he has shown pleasing progress on each occasion. Another newcomer, the Derek Cruz-trained Newswire, displayed some potential back in third. The son of Woodborough was having his first trial, so there is plenty of improvement to come from him. The Fownes-trained Horace's Horse showed considerable improvement from his only other trial and appears to be going in the right direction. Tony Cruz's Chariot Of Storm continues to impress in his work, finishing second in the fourth heat to Happy Eclipse. The Allan-trained Companion was never pressured back in fourth position and looks a likely winner when he makes his first appearance of the season. Tony Millard had the one-two in the final heat of the morning, which was held over the extended trip of one mile. Litigado and Jokers Wild both moved fairly well, but nothing new was gained from their work. Only one barrier trial was held on the all-weather at Sha Tin yesterday and it went to Millard's Noble Boy, who won his second trial in as many weeks.
