A scholarship scheme is offering students the chance to study at leading universities in the United States and Britain. The Hang Seng Bank Overseas Scholarship Scheme is inviting applications from outstanding Hong Kong and mainland students for the 2002-2003 academic year. A total of 22 students have already benefited from the scheme, which was launched five years ago. The programme offers undergraduate scholarships to SAR students and postgraduate ones at Harvard and Princeton for their mainland counterparts. Scholarship recipients are expected to have excellent academic achievements and strong leadership skills, as demonstrated by their extra-curricular activities and community service. Local applicants should have had at least three years' continuous education in the SAR, and are required to work in the territory for three years upon completion of their studies. Their mainland counterparts must return home to work for two years. Application forms for the Hong Kong scholarships can be obtained from the Student Financial Assistance Agency. You can also download the forms from the bank's Web site ( www.hangseng.com ). The deadline for applications is December 31.
