The Planning Department has finished the blueprint of Aberdeen Harbour, favouring recreational and tourism-related use, effectively dismissing the possibility of residential or commercial developments.
Developers or landlords wishing to redevelop land there will be disappointed by the latest study, which seeks to rejuvenate the area around the harbour.
The study suggests building five piers at Aberdeen, covering 16.6 hectares, with themes ranging from Fish Market Quay in Aberdeen, Bazaar in Ap Lei Chau, Harbour Square, Po Chong Wan Quay and the Middle Kingdom Redevelopment of Ocean Park.
The wholesale fish market in Aberdeen would be renovated with a 'fishermen's wharf' concept.
Neighbouring land could be developed into seafood restaurants to draw tourists, the study said.
The Government also plans to build a museum in the area to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of Hong Kong's port development.
It proposes use of the traditional sampan or small sight-seeing boats for water transport.
