Hospital for Tai Po

WORK is to begin on a new 1,020-bed convalescence home and infirmary at Tai Po in October - almost 10 years after the project was first suggested.

The Architectural Services Department yesterday invited tenders for the site formation, foundation and substructure works for the hospital, which will be on Chuen On Road.

A Hospital Authority spokesman said the number of beds, which will make the hospital almost as big as the Queen Mary, reflected the future need of the Tai Po area.

The site preparation work is due to finish in October next year, but no date has been set for the completion of the entire structure.
