OUR congratulations to Inchcape China director Lord Cromer who married in London last week after putting his marital discord of last year behind him. The 47-year-old Earl of Cromer wed 23-year-old Shelley Hu 18 months after they met while she was working in her native Shanghai. Lord Cromer fought a legal battle with his Thai-born first wife a year ago - after she was barred from the luxury Old Peak Road apartment the couple had shared during part of their 21-year marriage. The first Lady Cromer moved into a $3,500-a-night suite on the fifth floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel for nearly five months, until he went to the Court of Appeal complaining the arrangement was eating up his $100,000-a-month salary. The judge overruled a District Court order instructing him to continue paying her hotel bill, but added it was not reasonable for her to be barred from the Queen's Garden apartment. The couple, already leading separate lives, were re-united under one roof for a short time before divorcing. Ironically, Lord Cromer will not be sharing a home with his new bride for some time. She is to remain in London, studying, while he stays in the territory, visiting England every six weeks.
