Strolling through Beijing flea markets and antique stalls is like going on a treasure hunt. My favourite market is Pan Jia Yuan [Ghost Market], south of the Pan Jia Yuan bridge, near the Temple of Heaven. I love to update my home with furnishings and decorations and I always come across real gems and inexpensive antiques there. And I find haggling great fun - sometimes, I manage to buy goods for half their original price.

The well-preserved Naxi culture in this charming ancient town is fascinating. It's a Unesco world-heritage site and there are lots of stone houses and bridges over clear streams that flow from the snow-capped Jade Dragon mountain. I was really impressed by the hospitality of the locals and their intricate silver artwork and jewellery.
