Having your own business empire may well be your ultimate ambition. But how do you go about making it a reality?

Budding businessmen and women from 67 Hong Kong schools tried their hand at setting up companies in a simulated environment created by the Summer Virtual Enterprise Training Programme.

After attending three lectures focusing on basic business knowledge and Web site design, the participants were asked to formulate their own business plans and create Web pages.

Their proposals were also submitted for a competition that was part of the programme.

Seven business students from St Catharine's School for Girls won the overall championship with their plan for a tutorial centre.

Although their 'money-spinning' proposal was created under artificial conditions, the girls said it could be practical in a real-life situation. Despite their success, the students felt less confident when it came to matters relating to the budget.
