A Japanese tourist was in a coma last night after being found with head injuries in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The man, surnamed Enomoto, 68, was found lying unconscious by a cleaner in Knutsford Terrace near the Stanford Hillview Hotel at 9.30am. A walking stick was found beside him.
Police said he was found about an hour after he left his hotel. He arrived in Hong Kong about two weeks ago. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he was in a critical condition last night.
Senior Superintendent Ip Wai-keung, from Kowloon West regional crime unit, said the victim suffered serious head injuries but his wallet and passport were still on him. He said police were investigating whether any property was stolen from the man and the cause of his injuries.
Meanwhile, detectives were yesterday investigating the death of a woman, 99, who died in the Prince of Wales Hospital on Monday. She was admitted on Sunday morning after suffering knee injuries in a nursing home. Police said she fell from her wheelchair while queuing to take a bath.
A relative told officers she was reportedly pushed at the time of the incident. An autopsy will be carried out today.
