A knife-wielding man held a bank manager hostage and demanded her colleagues hand over cash in a Bank of China branch in Cheung Sha Wan yesterday. Police said the man grabbed the 27-year-old woman and threatened her with a cutter in the lobby of the bank on Castle Peak Road at 4.45pm. He then dragged her to one of the counters, a police spokeswoman said. A male staff member, 51, handed $19,540 to the robber, who then fled. No one was injured during the hold-up. The robber, wearing a hat, sunglasses and a dark-coloured windbreaker, is thought to be about 35 and 1.6 metres tall. In a separate case, an Overseas Trust Bank manager scuffled with an unarmed robber who tried to run out of the bank with $10,000 in Wan Chai. The 40-year-old manager saw the suspect, 25, hand a note to a female teller demanding money at the bank in Gloucester Road at 4.30pm. The teller handed him $10,000. The manager stopped the suspect when he tried to flee. Police arrived during the struggle.
