Cathay Pacific is to announce details of a company-wide voluntary unpaid leave scheme in the next two weeks.
Spokeswoman Lisa Wong Lai-shan said yesterday there were no plans for voluntary redundancies but the company planned to introduce an early retirement scheme next year.
The move comes as Cathay Pacific Holidays yesterday announced it had cut prices for holiday season package deals by 15 to 20 per cent.
The managing director of the travel agency, Patrick Yeung Wai-tim, said the move was designed to attract customers after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.
Cheaper prices from suppliers such as hotels and squeezed profit margins had helped to make the cuts possible.
Many people were adopting a wait-and-see approach to booking their holidays in the midst of special deals from airlines and travel agents, Mr Yeung added.
