I REFER to the letter written by Y. Chan expressing his view on our new ticketing procedures (South China Morning Post, July 3).

Beginning on July 1, we started to use plastic tickets for all ordinary class tickets (except Lo Wu and Racecourse) which are available only at the ticket machines.

For some tickets with relatively low utilisation, we will still use paper tickets, which are available only at the ticket offices.

On the first few days of implementation of the new ticketing procedure, there were long queues in the ticket offices.

However, most of them queued up for change, or to purchase Common Stored Value Tickets.

The situation has improved a lot now and we believe that the queueing was due to the fact that passengers need time to get used to the new procedures.
