AT THE MENTION of terrorist attacks, everyone automatically thinks of the World Trade Centre in New York. But there are other kinds of abhorrent attacks that take place every day - and, disturbingly, much closer to home.
School grounds are fast becoming a high-risk place where teenagers are most vulnerable to various kinds of sexual violence, according to a recent study conducted by the Department of Social Work at Hong Kong Baptist University and the Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women.
The study's findings are rather alarming.
Nearly 30 per cent of the 1,683 respondents said they had been forced to listen to sleazy jokes or were touched inappropriately at school.
Sexual violence among young people is most common at home, at friends' homes, karaoke bars and discos. Incidents that take place outside school tend to be more serious.
The study showed that 32.6 per cent of the students had been touched inappropriately, with 26.7 per cent experiencing the problem more than once.
