Animal 'detective' back on poison trail
A Swedish animal 'detective' has renewed a call for police to set up a 'clearing house' for all dog-poisoning cases so she can draw up a criminal profile of a serial canine killer.
Helena Striwing, an animal rights lawyer and adviser to the Swedish National Police who visited a year ago to investigate a previous rash of attacks, said she would return to the SAR next year.
The latest wave of poisonings, which has left four dogs dead and at least five ill in the past week, took place in the same Black's Link/Bowen Road footpaths in Mid-Levels.
Ms Striwing was drafted by Hong Kong police to help track down the suspect, who has eluded police since 1989. But her quest was frustrated by lack of information.
Her latest call comes after dog owners and the SPCA criticised police for not doing enough to catch the culprit.
Ms Striwing said unless there was a systematic way of reporting the dog poisonings, the culprit could not be profiled and would remain at large. 'The problem is that we seem to know so little,' she said.
