Guangdong leaders have called for unity in the new Shenzhen leadership and urged them to create glory for the Special Economic Zone. 'The provincial Government trusts that Ms Huang Liman and Mr Yu Youjun will be united and lead the party and masses in Shenzhen to a new level of accomplishment,' said Liu Fengyi, deputy party secretary of Guangdong at a meeting attended by Guangdong party boss Li Changchun and Governor Lu Ruihua, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported. The meeting publicised decisions taken by Beijing to reshuffle the leadership. Zhang Gaoli, former party leader of Shenzhen, was promoted to Governor of Shandong and Ms Huang was made his successor. Ms Huang was formerly deputy party secretary of Guangdong. 'The decision [regarding Mr Zhang] is in recognition of Mr Zhang's work and shows approval for the achievements of the Government of Shenzhen,' said Mr Liu. Ms Huang, an ally of President Jiang Zemin, said the new leadership would emphasise the stability of the Government, according to the report.
