I refer to the letter from Barbara Park headlined 'Land near popular walk in dire state' (South China Morning Post, November 20), concerning the maintenance of two parcels of land along Harlech Road.
This unallocated government land is close to Pokfulam Country Park. Since our site meeting with Mrs Park on August 16, we have been liaising with the Lands Department to sort out the land issue as well as working out arrangements for maintenance of the area.
We can now include the area, together with 25 other vacant government sites for greening in the coming financial year.
As your correspondent may be aware, there are technical constraints to 'beautifying' this land, such as the lack of water supply for irrigation of plants and the vulnerability to damage by vehicles. We will therefore continue to liaise with other government departments, so water points can be provided and some means can be found to prevent vehicles from driving on to the site.
Should any readers have further inquiries, they can contact district amenities officer (Central and Western) Cheung Yu-sang, at 2853 2568.
