Banker Josephine Earnshaw has raised $50,000 by shaving her head after a charity auction.
Ms Earnshaw, deputy chief operating officer at Credit Suisse First Boston, parted company with her hair along with seven male colleagues at the auction held by the company last week.
'Near the end of the auction, someone said we should pay for a chance to cut Jo's hair,' the bank's deputy director of regional research, Roger Watson, said. 'I think it was Jo herself, and we just started taking bids.'
Ms Earnshaw said she missed her hair but felt the money would go to a good cause. 'I basically said I wasn't going to do it unless it was for a good sum,' she said.
A range of other items were also up for grabs at the auction, which raised $115,000.
The firm also pledged $100,000, taking the total raised to $215,000, which will go to the KELY Support Group, helping young people deal with issues such as drugs, alcohol and family problems.
The effort was conceived by Charlie Wittenwom, an equity salesman, who lost his locks for $10,000.
