The Government has been accused of favouritism and a lack of transparency in appointing members to advisory committees in public organisations.
During Legco Question Time yesterday, Michael Mak Kwok-fung, who represents the health services sector, questioned the openness of the appointment process and asked whether members were being removed in 'retaliation' for their criticism.
He also said some appointees were not true representatives and that the Government had neglected the voice of certain trades.
Last month the Reverend Chu Yiu-ming, an outspoken member of the Hospital Authority's Public Complaints Committee, failed to have his appointment renewed after a four-year term. Two other veterans were also removed.
Democrat Andrew Cheng Kar-foo said: 'Some low-profile members who are co-operative serve long terms, while high-profile critics have their appointments stopped. How can you convince the public you are not favouring those who are pro-government?'
Secretary for Home Affairs Lam Woon-kwong denied officials were favouring pro-government advisers.
