February, 1992: Non-affiliated Tai Chin-wah given a suspended six-month sentence on five charges, including uttering and possessing forged documents and making a false declaration about his legal credentials to practise as a solicitor. Jailed for nine months a year later after Court of Appeal held that a suspended sentence did not reflect the gravity of the crime. June 1993: Gilbert Leung Kam-ho jailed for three years for bribing two regional councillors in the 1991 Legislative Council elections. The chartered surveyor offered $50,000 and $100,000 respectively to regional councillors Fung Pak-tai and Cheung Hon-chung to buy their votes. Both men refused the money. August 1998: Chim Pui-chung jailed for three years for plotting to forge share-transfer documents. Sentence later cut to 12 months by the Court of Appeal. A year later he was fined $100,000 for illegally buying dinner in 1998 and failing to obtain written authorisation to incur election expenses.
