Cathay Pacific flight attendants yesterday held off announcing any industrial action over the company's decision to scrap year-end bonuses and cut housing allowances.
The Flight Attendants Union's emergency forum at the Great Eagle Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui was attended by about 100 staff. Union chairwoman Becky Kwan Siu-wa said after the closed-doors meeting that the union did not wish to resort to industrial action, but could not rule out the possibility.
'We still want to resolve the issue internally and in a civilised manner,' Ms Kwan said.
Central to the row was the announcement in October by management that the discretionary year-end, one-month bonus would be scrapped and cabin crew housing allowance would need to be scaled down to the market rental level.
About 5,500 flight attendants are working for Cathay Pacific's Hong kong operations.
The company talked with the union at the end of November and early this month but the deadlock remains, with the union insisting that the year-end bonus must be reinstated and housing allowance not be cut.
