More than 12,000 Viagra tablets and 2.1 million restricted tranquillisers have been seized by Hong Kong police - the largest single haul for either drug.
The drugs, which had a total market value of $65 million and included 26,000 Ofloxacin antibiotic tablets and 2,000 Midazolam pills, were taken from a flat in Yuen Chau Street, Shamshuipo, on Friday.
Chief Superintendent Sin Kam-wah, of the Narcotics Bureau, said yesterday that the genuine Viagra tablets - believed to have come from the mainland - were bound for local pharmacies and the black market.
Further inquiries would be carried out by police, the Department of Health, and Customs to try to find out the mainland source of the drugs.
Mr Sin said the police also would strengthen intelligence exchanges with the mainland to crack down on cross-border smuggling of restricted drugs such as Viagra.
Viagra, Ofloxacin and the tranquillisers Zopiclone and Zolpidem need a doctors' prescription before they can be sold to the public.
