Man's Heritage: Marine Iguanas - Made In Galapagos

Pearl, 8.30pm

It's a double bill of nature programmes this evening on Pearl to help you unwind after the festive season. First up is the story of the evolution of marine iguanas on the Galapagos islands. Intense natural disasters have shaped the islands and the unique and robust animals that survive there.

Marine iguanas have evolved from land iguana colonists into highly adapted islanders. Discover the relationships marine iguanas share with other immigrant species which have shaped the web of life on the islands.

Man's Heritage: Puffins, Clifftop Clowns

Pearl, 9pm

On the cliffs of the Shetland Islands, bordering the North Sea, colourful puffins (above) arrive for the summer months to breed. This show follows the fortunes of these birds as the season progresses and their relationships with other North Sea dwellers.

The sea and surrounding areas have an intricate web of inter-relating species that can be very vulnerable to change. This programme shows the consequences to puffins and other species when parameters, such as sand eel populations, shift.

On the surface she seems to have everything a young married woman could ever want: wealth, stability, strong family roots - until she suspects her husband is being unfaithful. Her outwardly perfect life, carefully arranged by her strong-willed father and her genteel mother, seems to fall apart.

Torn between deep Southern tradition and modern restlessness, Grace King Bichon (Julia Roberts) has to find a way to break free of her cheating husband when he is financially tied in to the family business. Also starring Dennis Quaid (above with Roberts) and Robert Duvall. (1995)

Scent Of A Woman

Remake of the 1974 Italian film Profumo Di Donna.

Al Pacino outdoes himself with an Oscar-winning performance as hard-drinking, blind and arrogant retired ex-army Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade.

Student Charlie Simms (Chris O'Donnell) needs some extra cash and takes on a job as companion to the old man while his family goes out of town for Thanksgiving. What should have been an easy few bucks turns into an experience of a lifetime for Simms as Slade has ideas of his own how to spend the weekend. Reflecting what he believes to be the best aspects of life, Slade takes Simms on an adventure of chauffeured limousines, pretty women and fine wine. Watch out for the wonderful scene in which you can almost feel the elation as they take a Porsche for a test drive.

As a difficult relationship grows between the unlikely pair, they both learn a lot about themselves and begin to look at their lives differently. Also starring James Rebhorn, Gabrielle Anwar (above with Pacino) and Philip Seymour Hoffman. (1992)
