Truck movements are being monitored by computer as the SAR prepares for further developments in its transport and logistics industry.
Using the Internet and a satellite-linked global positioning system, cargo owners, freight-forwarders and shippers can keep track of their goods round the clock.
Skytruck, which has a fleet of 60 cross-border trailers, had been using the technology, sales and marketing director Kiean Lau Yi-kiu said.
It places trucks and other goods vehicles on a computerised map of Hong Kong and Guangdong. On the map, Ms Lau was able to click on a vehicle number plate and locate the truck's position - heading towards the mainland but delayed at the Lok Ma Chau border crossing point.
'Before we introduced this real-time system, we relied on mobile phones to contact drivers,' Ms Lau said.
The system can now give companies a more accurate location of their vehicles. Ms Lau said this allowed companies to mobilise their fleets effectively.
