A division of Foxconn Industrial Group, a United States-based computer and telecommunications product maker, has agreed to build an industrial park in Beijing.
A representative of Foxconn subsidiary Hon Hai Precision Industry of Taiwan confirmed the company had signed a letter of intent for the park but would give no further information.
According to Xinhua, Hon Hai president Terry Guo and Beijing mayor Liu Qi in December agreed to build an 800,000 square metre park in Beijing's 'economic and technological area'.
Companies in the park would make software and equipment for wireless and optical communications, Xinhua said.
Hon Hai is on the move in the mainland, according to the PCB 007 Information Centre Web site, which tracks Foxconn and other companies that produce PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls, which are the fluids inside televisions, lamps and other appliances).
Hon Hai recently decided to invest US$15 million in its Beijing subsidiary, Foxconn Precision, to develop wireless tools for the mainland.
